These widespread pollutants are a major threat affecting soil quality and human health. Iris species can adopt different pollination strategies to attract their pollinators, generalized shelter-mimicking, specialized deceptive sexual-mimicking or food-rewarding. As attractive stimuli, Iris flowers may use their colours, large-size, symmetry, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Molecular layer deposition (MLD) is an increasingly used deposition technique for producing thin coatings consisting of purely organic or hybrid inorganic-organic materials. When organic materials are prepared, low deposition temperatures are often required to avoid decomposition, thus causing problems with low vapor pressure precursors. Chlorinated dioxins and dibenzothiophenes in fly ash samples from combustion of peat, wood chips, refuse derived fuels and liquid packaging boards

Abstract Peat, wood chips, refuse derived fuel and liquid packaging board in different combinations were burned at a temperature of at least 850 °C. Fly ash samples from these combustions were analyzed for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzothiophenes (PCDBTs) by high resolution GC/MS. The concentrations of tri- and tetrachlorodibenzothiophenes and tri-, tetra- and pentachlorodioxins were highest when mixtures of wood chips and refuse derived fuel (RDF) were burned. Toward Near-Infrared Emission in Pt(II)-Cyclometallated Compounds: From Excimers’ Formation to Aggregation-Induced Emission

Two series of Pt(II)-cyclometallated compounds containing N^C^N tridentate and alkynyl-chromophore ligands have been synthesized and structurally characterized. The N^C^N ligands differ on the presence of R1 = H or F in the central aromatic ring, while six different chromophores have been introduced to the alkynyl moiety. Single-crystal X-ray structures for some of the compounds reveal the presence of weak intermolecular contacts responsible for the formation of some dimers or aggregates. Increased conformational rigidity of humic substances by oxidative biomimetic catalysis

A synthetic water-soluble meso-tetra(2,6-dichloro-3-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrinate of iron(III) chloride, Fe(TDCPPS)Cl, was employed as a biomimetic catalyst in the oxidative coupling of terrestrial humic materials. Selectivity of hydroxyl radical in the partial oxidation of aromatic compounds in heterogeneous photocatalysis

Abstract The photocatalytic oxidation of different benzene derivatives has been investigated in order to understand how the substituent group affects the selectivity to hydroxylated compounds. Experimental runs were performed by using TiO2 (Merck) aqueous suspensions at natural pH irradiated by near-UV light. The organic molecules used as substrate contained an electron withdrawing group (EWG) (nitrobenzene, cyanobenzene, benzoic acid, 1-phenylethanone), an electron donor one (EDG) (phenol, phenylamine, N-phenylacetamide) or both an EWG and an EDG (4-chlorophenol). Asymmetric synthesis of functionalized tetrahydrofluorenones via an NHC-catalyzed homoenolate Michael addition

The first example of an N-heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed asymmetric desymmetrization of enal-tethered cyclohexadienones via an intramolecular homoenolate Michael addition/esterification reaction is described. This new protocol offers a direct entry to various functionalized tetrahydrofluorenones with three contiguous stereocenters in high yields, good diastereoselectivities and excellent enantioselectivities.

Tailored conjugated polymer Langmuir-Schafer thin films in sensing transistors

Organic Thin Film Transistors (OTFTs) have been fabricated, in a standard bottom gate configuration, with Langmuir-Schäfer (LS) or cast thin films of regioregular poly[1,4-(2,5-dioctyloxyphenylene)-2,5-thiophene], synthesized via an organometallic protocol, as active layers. The transistors electrical characterization has evidenced that LS based devices exhibit better performance level than cast film ones. Appealing perspectives for newly substituted conjugated polymers in OTFT sensing devices are discussed.
